As the summer vacations are going to  start, so I am here with some hill stations details which are near (within 300km) to capital city Delhi.

Lansdowne is hill station near Delhi popular for its rich forests and jungle safari. The name Lansdowne is as because this town was established by Viceroy of East India Company namely Lord Lansdowne, but it is not real name of town. It was originally named as Kaludanda. Santoshi Mata Temple, War Memorial, Tip and top View Point and St. Mary's Church are some common places of Attraction here. You can plan a itinerary throughout the year as weather remains pleasant throughout the year.

Sattal as the name specifies sat tal which means seven lakes. This tiny hilly resort is a unique interconnection of seven freshwater lakes. Sattal is located about 22km from Nainital. If you are an avid birder then Sattal is like paradise for you. Trekking, Boating, Fishing, Kayaking are other things to do in Sattal. Bhimtal, Butterfly Museum, Methodist Ashram, Subash Dhara are places of tourist attraction here.

A Guide to Visit Dehradun

Dehradun, capital city of the Uttarakhand (earlier called Uttaranchal), is located in the Doon valley. The literal meaning of word Dehradun is Dehra (abode) in Dun (a valley enclosed by two mountains). The city has religious meaning; it has description in Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Dehradun is considered as gateway to various hill stations like Nainital, Masoori and pilgrimage like Haridwar, Rishikesh. A tour to Dehradun provides one with the unforgettable memory of flawless beauty that would stay with one for a long. It is quite sure that the gushing streams, deep ravines, lustrous valleys and most of all the high mountain ranges of this hilly resort would unwittingly hold one's breath.

Places to Visit in Dehradun:

 Sahastradhara

It is famous tourist spot which is about 14 km from city centre. This place is not only famous for its beautiful scenic views but also for its medicinal value. Main attractions of the place are Sulphur Spring and Shiv temple in the cave. Getting wet under thousands of droplets or bathing in the stream both gives a refreshing feeling. A bath under Sulphur Spring works as medicine for curing skin problems. People also take water of the spring with them to drink to get rid of stomach problems. There is also ropeway to climb up.

Tiger Falls is located at a height of 1400 meters above sea level. People can enjoy a refreshing bath under50 meters high waterfall, converges into a small pond. This is the best place to enjoy with family.

This place is also known as Gucchupani. The water flows between 2 rocks like a heaven. The cave and the path is really gorgeous to see, one can go on 1 mile long walk with full of water and at some place find showers from the rocks make the atmosphere rainy.

Tapovan, a sacred place, is about 5 km from the city center. Tapovan is  situated on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. The place is popularly known for its religious history. It is common belief that Guru Dronacharya had undergone his penance here. This place is surrounded by greenery and sound from the river makes the ambiance very soothing which heals all the sorrows.

Temple is dedicated to worship Lord Shiva. Temple is located at the banks of the Nandi River. The main shivalinga is established inside a natural cave where water drops from the ceiling of the cave trickle down over the shivalinga in a continuous manner.
Rajaji National Park

Rajaji National Park is spreaded over 820.42 sq km area. The park is opened to visitors only from Mid-November to Mid-June. The reserve is home to avian species which are found in forested foothills and in open grassland.

How to reach:

Dehradun is well connected city. It is reachable via following means by other parts of country.

 By Air
Jolly Grant Airport is a nearest airport which is about 20 km from city center. One can reach airport via taxi. Flights to Delhi are available on daily basis.

By Rail
Dehradun Railway Station is the nearest railhead which is about 2 km from the city center. It connects Dehradun with all Major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Varanasi, Ujjain and Indore. 

By Road
Dehradun is connected with all major cities via road . One can reach three via cabs or buses. Delhi is about 247 km. which is easily accessible via roads.

Best time to visit:
According to me Best time to visit Dehradun is summer and monsoon.  In the month of March, April and October, November weather of city becomes very pleasant.

 Dehradun provides several options for accommodation. City offers you variety of hotels ranging from low budget hotels to luxury hotels, Lodge, Cottage, villa, homestays, heritage hotels and resorts. Dehradun plays great role in development of tourism sector in Uttrarakhand with hotels.
