Sela Pass, at about
14000 Ft above from sea level, is a mountain pass situated in Tawang city of
Arunachal Pradesh. Sela Pass is a gateway to Tawang city. It is about 78 km
away from Tawang. The pass is covered by snow throughout the year and in
winter’s temperature goes even below the -10 degree Celsius. Snow fall occurs
very often here.
Sela was a local tribal
girl who loved Jaswant Singh Rawat, a soldier of the 4th Battalion Garhwal
Rifles of Indian Army. In 1962, during Indo-China war Jaswant Singh alone
fought against the China single handed and kept them away for 72 hours, that
is, for three days. He ran from bunker to bunker, firing from each bunker, created
an illusion that many soldiers were presented their. And thus fooled Chinese
army for three days. Here comes the role of Sela. Sela, brought him food and
water for three days regularly. But they were betrayed by Sela’s father, as he
was against their love story. He was captured by Chinese and beheaded . After
seeing Jaswant’s dead body sela committed suicide.
This is the story
behind Sela Pass, a monument to pay tribute to Sella.
Sela Lake:
Sela lake, also known
as Paradise Lake remains frozen in winter. The flying cottony cloud gives a
feeling that you are captured in world of white. Here you feel a one to one
contact with almighty God. Natural beauty of this lake make fall you in love
with it.
To feel the beauty of
this place please leave your phones or any other gazette aside as technology
and nature has no relationship.
I suggest you to carry
medicines as due to height oxygen level is very low there. You may experience
altitude sickness like breathing problem, vomiting and etc. Also do not forget
to carry food and water with you as there is only a tea shop which offers some
snacks only.
